Decorating with posters and prints

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

Decorating a room with posters and prints has got to be one of the easiest (and cheapest!) ways to transform a dull space into something colourful and more personal. They come in all shapes and sizes, themes and styles so it will be very easy to find exactly what is right for you and your home.

Be smart
Some websites offer the option to buy the poster and frame together.
In my experience, it usually works out cheaper to buy them separately.
Also, the same poster is often avaiable from different websites and shops so it’s always worth spending an extra 10 minutes shopping around to get the best deal.

Set the mood
A poster of your favourite holiday destination could make you feel happy or a tranquil scene could help you de-stress after a long day’s work. What kind of atmosphere would you like to create?

Themed rooms
Posters work a treat if you have decided to give your room a theme. Think of vintage ads, movies, retro or perhaps fairies or football for the little ones. Be creative. My Alice in Wonderland vintage prints were the first items I bought when I decided to give my home office such a theme!

Frames
When buying frames, keep in mind the following things:
- Pick the right frame for your picture. Because the choice is so wide (wood, antique, elegant, plain, etc) you need to make sure that the frame will truly enhance your picture.
- Consider the decor of the room, the colour scheme and where you will be placing the poster.
- Do you want a border around your photo?
If you fancy a bit of DIY, you will also find natural wood frames, which can be painted to match your home decor.
