Home decorating styles made simple: Art Deco
What is it?
Art Deco is a style that began in Europe, particularly Paris, and that was very popular in the 1920s and 1930s.
The main emphasis is on geometric, angular and richly coloured patterns as well as new materials such as ivory and mother of pearl. By the 1930s, travelling had become very popular and more unusual materials had become available. This style was also influenced by the archeological new discoveries in the Middle East and near East, by the Cubist artistic movement and by the developments in transports.

I personally think a full on Art Deco style room is a bit too much but I do love the clean and geometric shapes as well as some bold accessories such as clocks, coloured glass and advertising posters.

Colour palette
The overall tone of Art Deco colour combinations is cooler compared to the warm palettes of the previous decades. Vibrant and bold colours such as orange and purple were very fashionable and sharpness was created with the use of black to delineate shapes. Chrome and gold were very popular too.
